Proud to be among Canada’s Best Managed Companies
After 25 years in business, Canadian-owned and operated Payworks has a lot to celebrate in 2025!
Not only was Payworks named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for the thirteenth consecutive year (a baker’s dozen!), but on May 12, Payworks will also be recognized at the 2025 Manitoba Champions Awards by the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce as the recipient of the Lieutenant Governor Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Community by a Business.
“We’re honoured that Payworks is being celebrated for our business practices twice this May,” said Mike Penman, President of Payworks. “We’re proud to have retained the Canada’s Best Managed Companies designation, and the local acknowledgement of the prestigious Lieutenant Governor Award was an unexpected and humbling surprise. We congratulate all of the winners of this year’s awards and we’re looking forward to celebrating together!”
Established in 1993, Canada’s Best Managed Companies is the country’s leading business awards program, recognizing excellence in Canadian headquartered companies. The four pillars of a Best Managed Company are strategy, culture and commitment, capabilities and innovation, and governance and financials. Similarly, the Manitoba Champions Awards honours businesses and individuals that are not only driving economic growth, but are also dedicated to making a positive impact in their communities and across the province.
Paying it forward in the communities where our staff live and work is at Payworks’ core. We proudly support more than 300 organizations across Canada through local sponsorship, volunteering, investment and employee-initiated giving. With more than 650 employees across the country, we strive to maintain a culture that promotes innovation and collaboration, encourages and emphasizes community involvement through our Pay it Forward program, and focuses on cultivating and nurturing long-lasting relationships with clients.
Over the past year, Payworks added more than 10,000 new customers and also onboarded over 100 new Payworks employees to ensure that we continue to provide those clients with the exceptional solutions and service for which we’re known. In 2024, we celebrated the grand opening of our new Head Office space in Winnipeg and recently opened a new office in Cambridge, Ontario for our growing team in that region.
“We got our start as the alternative in the payroll industry, built by and for Canadians, and 25 years later, we’re the largest Canadian-owned payroll provider in the country,” said Mike. “We understand the needs of Canadian businesses, because we share the same challenges. We’re proud to be in the company of the resilient and innovative organizations that have also achieved or retained the Best Managed Companies designation in 2025. We’d like to thank our clients and partners for continuing to trust us with their business, and the whole Payworks team for their creativity, innovation and contributions each and every day.”
