Payworks employees across Canada showed their support for McHappy Day® and Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) Canada by rolling up their sleeves to work behind the counter and participating in other restaurant activities in Langley, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Toronto.
On McHappy Day, McDonald’s donates $1 from every Big Mac®, Happy Meal, and hot McCafé beverage sold all day to local RMHC and to various other local children’s charities across Canada. Since launching in 1977, McHappy Day has raised more than $67 million for RMHC and local children’s charities. According to a media release from McDonald's Canada, McHappy Day 2018 raised more than $6.1 million for children's charities.
Cassie Hamer, Payworks Sales Consultant ,was one of this year’s volunteers in Langley, British Columbia.
“We were stationed in the drive-thru collecting donations. I was deeply moved by the generosity of others toward a great cause. It was worth every minute we were out there and I would love to do this more than once a year.”
Matthew Hiller, Payworks Product Support Analyst, volunteered in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
“I have volunteered at Ronald McDonald House in the past so I’ve seen the families that this day supports. I was able to listen to their stories about how difficult times are when their children are sick and how much it means to them to have a place like the Ronald McDonald House to be able to keep their family together. It’s for this reason that I enjoyed every minute of it.”
In May 2015,Payworks announced its official national partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada. RMHC Canada was founded in 1982 to be the everlasting organization that would support Ronald McDonald Houses and their programs in Canada. The 15 Ronald McDonald Houses provide a home away from home for out-of-town families with sick children being treated at a nearby hospital, while the 16 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms provide a caring place for families to rest and recharge, right beside the hospital. Today, the Ronald McDonald Houses and Ronald McDonald Family Rooms support over 26,000 families from over 1,800 communities across Canada each year.
