There are many ways to volunteer one's time - like preparing for a party!
That is what Payworks Product Analyst, HRIS, Selena Benic did this past December using her employee Pay It Forward Day benefit. Selena was at the Association for Community Living, Beausejour Branch Inc. on December 8, 2017 helping out with lunch preparations for the day program clients as well as getting some of the clients ready for their holiday party.
"The Association for Community Living Beausejour Branch is a non-profit, community-based organization that provides person-centered opportunities for adults living with intellectual disabilities," explained Selena. "I had the pleasure of volunteering at their main office for the day. The clients and staff are an amazing group of people and it was such a pleasure spending time with them and helping out in any way I could."Prior to joining the Payworks team in April 2017, Selena was an HR Consultant with the Association for Community Living Beausejour Branch being one of her clients.
"At my last job I provided HR support for them a couple of days a week and really connected with the staff and the clients," she said. "The highlight of my day was when clients would stop by my office for a visit."
The fun and caring environment, and the way the organization strived to enrich the lives of their clients touched Selena's heart. So when thinking of a way to cash in her paid day off to volunteer, she couldn't think of a better way to spend it.
"My Pay It Forward Day was a very exciting day for the staff and clients at the Association for Community Living. Later that evening was their annual holiday party which is an event everyone looks forward to each year," explained Selena. "I painted some of the client's nails, visited with them, and participated in a dance rehearsal where they used sign language. I also helped make their pizza lunch."

"As soon as I learned about the Payworks employee benefit of Pay It Forward Day, I knew I wanted to use my day for this organization," said Selena. "This is a great benefit for employees. It gives us a chance to give back to an organization or charity that is important to us individually. I look forward to using my Pay It Forward Day in 2018."
