Giving back across generations in Montreal

Payworks is a business built on relationships – with our clients, our colleagues and our communities. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the needs of our communities are greater than ever. The way we give back today looks a little different than it did earlier in the year, but the heart and generosity behind our staff's Pay it Forward stories encompass the purpose of why we do what we do. Their care and commitment highlights what will get us through this time together.

In late 2019, several members of Payworks’ Montreal team used their Pay it Forward (PIF) Day to benefit the children of their own families, neighbourhoods and communities.

Sales Consultant Kelly Marshall celebrated the joy of a good story at her kids’ daycare by volunteering to read to groups of preschool-aged children. She handpicked some of the books in heavy rotation in her own home to share with the kids, including “Good Night, I Love You” by Caroline Jayne Church and a book from the Little Explorer series that Kelly’s family enjoys because, as she says, “they encourage everyone to be explorers in their own way.”

Much of the Montreal crew spent a Saturday in December volunteering for Overture with the Arts (OWTA), a not-for-profit organization offering free and low-cost education in music, dance, drama and vocal training to children and teens. OWTA holds a Christmas fundraiser every year, and the Payworks team spent the day behind the scenes working on setup and logistics.

Kelly is a longtime volunteer with OWTA and shares that she loves Payworks’ PIF Days: “I love having the opportunity to give back alongside my colleagues. It’s important to me to set a good example… especially for my daughters.”
